Nitroglycerine

ADULT:

Chest pain BP > 100:

 

0.4 mg SL, may repeat every 3 min. to a maximum of 3 doses.

 

CHF / Pulmonary Rales BP ≥ 100 - 150:

 

0.4 mg SL, may repeat every 3 min. to a maximum of 3 doses.  

 

CHF / Pulmonary Rales BP ≥ 150:

 

0.8 mg SL, may repeat every 3 min. to a maximum of 3 doses.

 

PEDS:

Not approved for Peds (BHO).

INDICATIONS:

- Chest pain of suspected cardiac origin.

- Pulmonary Rales / suspected CHF.

 

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

- No NTG if Erectile Dysfunction drugs (i.e.: Viagra, Levitra, Cialis, etc.) were used in past 24 hours.

- Note: ED medications can be used for other medical conditions such as Pulmonary Hypertension.

 

COMMENTS:

- Use with Caution if given with other vasodilators (e.g. morphine).

- BH may order the administration of NTG > 3 doses.

- Document BP and pain scale before and after each dose.

- Pt’s with history of Pulmonary Hypertension may be on ED meds.

 

GONITRO PROCEDURES:

- Tap packet to ensure medication is all together.

- Tear packet at tear line.

- Pour entire packet under the patient’s tongue.
