Fentanyl

ADULT:

Moderate to severe pain, See indications below: 

 

50 mcg IV / IM (1 mL), may repeat once in 3 min. for continued pain. (Concentration comes in 100 mcg/2 mL)

100 mcg IN (1 mL each nostril), may repeat once in 3 min. for continued pain

PEDS:

Moderate to severe pain, See indications below (BHC for < 2y/o):

 

2 mcg/kg IV / IM / IN may repeat once after 3 min., (Max total dose 100 mcg total)

 

**When administering IM with carpuject discard 50 mcg (1 mL) prior to admin. to prevent overdose**

INDICATIONS:                      

- Moderate to severe pain (≥ 5)              

- Burns - SO                          

- Isolated extremity trauma -SO              

- Amputation/De-gloving- SO                  

- Snake Bites – SO                      

- Eye injury – SO                      

- Impaled objects - SO                     

- Chest pain of cardiac origin - SO (IV only)

- Kidney stones, abdominal pain, flank pain - SO

- Back pain - BHO

- Head trauma - BHO

- Acute Pulmonary Edema / CHF - BHO

 

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

- Head trauma

- Hypovolemia

- BP < 90 systolic for Adults

- Multi-system trauma

- Use caution with Versed or Morphine BHO

- Known allergy or intolerance

- BP < 80 systolic for PEDS

COMMENTS: 

- Can cause respiratory depression, dizziness, or muscle rigidity.

 

***Can use Narcan to reverse respiratory depression***
