Aspirin
ADULT:
Chest pain of suspected cardiac origin
324 mg = 4 chewable 81 mg tabs orally, chewed (SO)
- No subsequent doses
PEDS:
Not Indicated
INDICATIONS:
- Chest pain of suspected cardiac origin.
PRECAUTIONS / COMMENTS:
- Do not administer SO if pt. is taking anticoagulants or anti-platelet meds (examples: Coumadin / Warfarin, low dose Heparin, Lovenox, Plavix, Abciximab, Apixaban, Clopidogrel, Diabigatran, Effient, Eliquis, Pradaxa, ReoPro, Rivaroxaban, Xarelto), BHO.
- The patient should be given 324 mg of ASA even if the patient has taken ASA PTA.
- Taken ASA outside of 4 hours = give 324 mg ASA.
- Taken ASA with in 4 hours = give 324 mg ASA.
- Taken less than 324 mg of ASA with in 4 hours = give 324 mg ASA.
- Back pain (Possible Dissecting Aorta) = No ASA
- Blood Thinners = No ASA
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
- Hold if known ASA allergy.
- Do not administer if suspected dissecting aorta (Chest pain radiating to the back).
- Chest pain radiating directly to the mid back (suspected dissecting Aorta).
- Patient on Blood thinners (see above under Precautions).
